Sun Rays Through the Trees...
Several weeks ago my husband and I moved to a rental cabin at Terra Studios. I love it! We basically live in a forest now and I work at a bakery, Ozark Natural Breads, within walking distance. I am so thankful for my new home and being closer to nature. We have a bird feeder and a hummingbird feeder on our front porch and so far I've seen Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Indigo Buntings, Cardinals, Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, Downy Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, and Crows. Walking to work the other morning I saw a pair of Killdeer pretending like they had broken wings because their eggs were nearby. I also saw a rabbit and plenty of squirrels and I'm sure I'll see some deer one day on my morning walk. Terra Studios is unlike anywhere else. It is an artist community of sorts; I have sold my art there for nearly two years and it was the first gallery I have ever had my art in. There is a lil' coffee shop there that sells sandwiches, cookies, and delicious quiches. My little dog also loves his new home! I have a one-day art show on Saturday and after that no more until the fall except the Bentonville Artsfest on June 11th. I will be spending the summer making new drawings, researching stuff to do next year, figuring out how to screen print my designs on clothing, bags and umbrellas (I'll probably have someone else do it for me!), and preparing for the fall shows. I have a lot planned but I also want to relax and enjoy the forest around me. I'm looking forward to getting some good nature pics too!

You know what would be really cool? You could draw a kiwi bird and screen print it onto a T-shirt, and I WOULD TOTALLY BUY IT! It's a neat idea, expanding your artwork off page and onto other consumer items like you ones you previously mentioned.
ReplyDeleteWell, our trip to and from NC went really well! I was able to talk to the lady who wrote my grammar book and essay program (which was structured so that writing essays is actually enjoyable), and she gave me some good advice in preparation for an English-centered degree. I'm beginning to get that freaked-out feeling every time I think about college because I've only got one more year left! I've already gotten this nice little collection of brochures; the convention was a great place for resources. Do you remember Jim Weiss, the guy who does audio books and storytelling performances? I got to talk to him for a little while; he and I geeked out about Oscar Wilde and I had him explain the process of how authors contacted him to read their kids' books aloud and sell them in book/CD sets. He gave me this funny grin and asked if I was writing a book. Truth is, I'm trying to write a book for little children, like a Five-In-A-Row type read, and this time I'm seriously considering finding a publisher. (shrugs) Exciting times but whatever happens will have to happen slowly. I wouldn't want to rush into something like this.
Now I want to see y'all's cabin! It sounds beautiful. That's great that the bakery is so close. Do you have any plans for next year as far as where you want to see your art go?
